Planetarij Ljubljana is the first Slovenian project of this kind, its high-tech equipment allowing for a stunning visual experience. It is housed in a smaller dome which serves both as a digital planetarium and a cinema in which the full dome surface is used for the projections which surround viewers with a sense of augmented reality.
There are two main programs at the Planetarij:
The digital planetarium combines the capabilities of Stellarium, a 3D star map software, and World Wide Telescope to make the astronomy lectures about the universe even more breathtaking. Different types of lectures are available for children, youths and large school groups.
The full-dome cinema has numerous types of content available, from cartoons and adventure films to digital art projections, but since the first full-dome movies were made for planetariums most of them focus on the Universe and its stars and galaxies. Most movies are around a half-hour long and can be combined with guest lectures, like the recent October visit by the Russian astronaut Sergej Zaljotin, organized by the Vesela Druščina association.
Rapid pace of innovation for the full-dome cinemas will bring more opportunities for their use, such as business presentations, exhibitions, scientific presentations, sports viewings, art performances or other special events. It is truly the platform of the future for interactive, educational and entertainment content.
The technologies used for content creation started out in the 1990s, with a growing development phase in the 2000s all the way until the present moment, when the fruits of the labor of this new industry becoming much more popular and accessible.
However, the hardware is still produced by only a few manufacturers, with our
dome made by Fulldome.pro, an international corporation capable off producing domes ranging from 1.5 to 35 meters in diameter, serving up to 213 people at once. Our dome is a smaller one, 8 meters in diameter, with a height of 5 meters, serving high-quality 4K imagery to up to 35 people at once using 4 server-synchronized projectors.
The dome is also ready to serve visitors all year, from summer to winter, with
content available in many languages including English, Russian, Italian, Chinese,
Korean. Foreign language projections are available for groups of 15 people and
