Description

The BAP promotes planetaria as an ideal means of inspiring interest and increasing understanding of space and the sky at night. As an organisation the BAP is a friendly and supportive group of planetarium professionals. They keep up-to-date with advances in astronomy and planetaria technologies through regular communication and annual meetings where we can share our knowledge, skills and experiences. BAP 2012 is the annual conference for 2012, taking place at the National Space Centre, Leicester, UK. Here’s a short review of the proposed schedule: FRIDAY SESSIONS 9:30am SHUTTLE SUITE: Coffee & Pastries 10:00am SHUTTLE SUITE: Welcome & member introductions (Jenny Shipway) 10:45am SHUTTLE SUITE: International Inspiration: Heavens of Copernicus Planetarium, Warsaw (Marciej Ligowski via Skype) 11:20am SHUTTLE SUITE: BAP Affiliations (Shaaron Leverment) 11:35am SHUTTLE SUITE: Keep Your Feet on the Ground (Ray Worthy) 12:00pm SHUTTLE SUITE: Evaluation (Jenny Shipway) 12:10pm SHUTTLE SUITE: App activity introduction (Chris Hudson) 12:20pm BOOSTERS: Lunch by RSA Cosmos & App activity (Chris Hudson) 1:00pm SHUTTLE SUITE: Operations: Mobile Domes(Steve Blight)orPLANETARIUM: Operations: Fixed Domes (Colin Hutchenson et al.) These parallel sessions are a chance to compare and share best practice for systems such as scheduling and bookings. 2:00pm PLANETARIUM: RSA Cosmos 2:25pm PLANETARIUM: Konica Minolta by Skypoint (Marco Cosmacini) 2:50pm OUTSIDE DOME: Science Dome (Neil Carrington) or EXHIBITION SPACE (mobile dome): Tales of Horror (Ben Brown). A chance to share the stories of when things didn’t quite go to plan.We need to split in half for these, then swap and do the other session after the break. 3:15pm EXHIBITION SPACE: Coffee break, chance to browse displays and mobile domes. 3:40pm OUTSIDE DOME: Science Dome (Neil Carrington) or EXHIBITION SPACE (mobile dome): Tales of Horror (Ben Brown) 4:10pm PLANETARIUM: Global Immersion 4:35pm PLANETARIUM: NSC Creative (Paul Mowbray) Stretch your legs (5 min break) 5:05pm PLANETARIUM: Softmachine (Peter Popp) 5:30pm PLANETARIUM: Going Dark: Science and storytelling, darkness and light (Tom Espiner) 6:00pm END and quick exit as NSC have a corporate event tonight! Pre-dinner PUB: there will be a recommended pub near the restaurant. 7:30pm DINNER sponsored by Zeiss, at Agra Fine Dining, near Leicester Railway Station. (Paul Mowbray) 9:25am PLANETARIUM: Satellite Spotting and Recording (Pete Bassett) 9:45am PLANETARIUM: Mirage 3D (Robin Sip) 10:10am EXHIBITION SPACE: Coffee break, chance to browse displays and mobile domes. 10:45am PLANETARIUM: Pre-school shows (Lee Pullen & Chris Hudson) 11:50am PLANETARIUM: Evans & Sutherland (Michael Daut) 12:15pm SHUTTLE SUITE: Lunch 12:55pm Group photo! 1:10pm PLANETARIUM: Digitalis by Skypoint (Marco Cosmacini) 1:40pm PLANETARIUM: SkySkan (Glenn Smith) 2:15pm EXHIBITION SPACE: Coffee break, chance to browse displays and mobile domes. 2:40pm SHUTTLE SUITE: BAP AGM 4:20pm BOOSTERS: Space Cocktails by Global Immersion! 5:00pm PLANETARIUM: Silly Presenter Game (Shaaron Leverment, Megan Whewell, Jenny Shipway AND YOU!). Volunteer to show off your improvisation skills in this fast-paced chance to talk us around the night sky. 5:30pm END and reasonably paced exit as NSC have a corporate event tonight too.
