The Centennial of the Planetarium Celebration Officially Begins Today

Centennial Celebration Launch Day is here and, as the founder and director of the Fulldome Databse, I'm so excited to attend the launch of the Centennial of the Planetarium in person with the wider planetarium community at the Deutsches Museum in Munich, Germany, where the first planetarium was shown 100 years ago.

I'm honoured to be a member of the jury for the International Planetarium Society along with some good friends and colleagues: Ryan Wyatt (California Academy of Sciences, USA), Volkmar Schorcht (ZEISS, Germany), Ralph Heinsohn (Germany), Anna Öst (Visualiseringscenter C, Sweden) and Yuriy Gapon (UMA Vision, Ukraine).

The ceremony kicks off today, October 21, at 3:00 pm UTC, and can be followed both in-person and online. Anyone is welcome to join it virtually for the celebration today.

The live event will feature some amazing presentations and premieres, including:

  • Keynote Speech from Thomas Reiter (Former ESA Astronaut)
  • Presentation of multiple centennial projects
  • Introduction and premieres of new centennial fulldome shows ‘100 Years of Eternity’ and KIRA
  • Centennial Arts Contest winners

Wishing you all a fantastic beginning of the Planetarium Centennial celebrations!
