Mobile Planetarium as a Tool for Popularizing Science – 3rd Russian Planetarium Conference Diary

The Kursk planetarium “Meteor Shower” is a 6m portable planetarium has tight connections with many schools in Russia and offers science and astronomy education to both school groups and families.

The number of visitors per year is quite impressive:

  • 2014: 3,110 people
  • 2015: 6,400 people
  • 2016: 8,410 people
  • 2017: 2,700 people so far.

The Meteor Shower planetarium is very committed in keeping its equipment fresh and up-to-date, as well as in learning new skills that can be used in their daily operations. Elena Proskurina, representative of the Kursk mobile planetarium, attended the Conference and shared both her stories and experience with teaching astronomy to local schools in Russia.
